Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple Analyst says that all three iPhones in 2020 will come with 5G support.
Apple is now Competing with other 5G Android Smartphones. Apple is expected to launch three iPhone models in 2020. As per the rumours have suggested that all three 2020 iPhones will sport OLED displays and that a couple of them may also get 120Hz displays like the iPad Pro.
Another motivator for Apple would also be the expectation of 5G Android phones getting cheaper in 2020.
All three 2020 iPhone models are said to support both mmWave and Sub-6GHz spectrum to meet the requirement of the US market. It is unclear if Apple will launch 5G iPhones with only Sub-6GHz support to make them more affordable in other markets like China.
The 5.4-inch and 6.7-inch iPhone models were said to support 5G while the more affordable 6.1-inch iPhone XR successor would only support 4G/LTE. However, in a new note to investors on Sunday, Kuo said that Apple will launch all its iPhone models next year with 5G support in order to compete against affordable 5G Android smartphones, as reported by MacRumors.
The analyst added that Apple’s recent acquisition of Intel’s smartphone modem chip business would give the company more resources for developing the 5G iPhone.
Despite Apple’s acquisition of Intel’s modem business for $1 billion, Kuo says that the company will continue relying on Qualcomm’s modem chips in its 2020 5G iPhone lineup. Apple is also reportedly working on its own modem chips, which we expect to see inside iPhones in 2021.
A major upgrade his time around will be the cameras with the 2019 iPhone XR rumoured to get dual cameras and the more premium models coming with triple cameras housed in a square-shaped module
