Different Types of Packaging For Product Distribution

All products need the appropriate packaging, so their distribution is correct, not to suffer any damage, and to reach their final destination in perfect condition. For this reason, there are different types of packaging designed to cover the needs of each product and shipment.

Types of Packaging

Packaging is of vital importance for both logistics and distribution. And with them, it is possible to offer the protection that each product needs and, in addition, the storage in the warehouses is optimized.

Packaging is essential, as we have said, to protect the product, to guarantee its conservation so that it can handle it properly, and, of course, to identify it and thus be able to treat it.

It can include information as relevant as the characteristics of the content, the fragility of the package (something to consider when moving it), its weight, the company’s seal, etc. It is also excellent in introducing advertising and working on brand identity.

There are many types of packaging, including the following:

Paper Packaging

Paper packaging is ubiquitous and is often used as a cover for packaging to protect the package from light, humidity, dust, and other agents.

Cardboard Packaging

Cardboard is the packaging par excellence and the most widely used due to its effectiveness, its price, and its ability to be recycled.

In addition, it can be adapted to any product, whether in size, weight, or shape, and it is also used to decorate the shipment thanks to the fact that it can print it in color.

Companies in all sectors use cardboard packaging. They can be, for example, to place eggs or fruit, protect electronic components, or even cover the different packages inside another package.

Nowadays, it is spreading to different sectors thanks to sustainability and the environment. We can find cardboard packaging for soap or even water bottles or juices.

Plastic Packaging

The use of plastic packaging is trying to be reduced more and more for environmental reasons. But it can also be said in its favor that, thanks to its different sizes and resistance to weight, this type of packaging can be reused indefinitely until it suffers some notable deterioration.

On the other hand, it offers high protection to items. Hence, it is usually used to transport food, beauty products, or liquids.

As a general rule, the companies that use plastic packaging are all those dedicated to the food sector. For example, water bottles, sauce boats, prefabricated food, yogurt cups…

Wooden Packaging

Wood is hands down the most efficient material for distributing heavy items. Wooden packaging can be very varied, and, in addition, it also adapts to different shapes and sizes.

Among them are wooden boxes, pallets, etc. And the sector that uses this type of rigid packaging is mainly those dedicated to logistics and making shipments by air, sea, or land.

Sustainable Packaging

The world suffers from a huge pollution problem. Our seas and mountains are full of plastics and pollutants that negatively affect the environment and harm all living beings.

For this reason, the European Union and its member states have wanted to take action on the matter and reduce, for example, the use of plastic as much as possible. And they want to achieve it before 2023. In addition, the packaging that continues to be produced with this material must be recyclable or reusable.

Sustainable packaging is suitable for any company, and using it helps reduce the environmental impact and the ecological problem we are causing worldwide.

Ecological packaging is considered to be packaging whose manufacturer has considered eco-design. Therefore, it is about recyclable, biodegradable, reusable packaging manufactured from recycled materials.

In addition, they present a lower risk to the health of the workers who must handle them and do not use harmful chemicals to human or animal health.

Sustainable packaging also allows us to go much further. And it is that they allow creative packaging to be applied to help tell a story that reaches the consumer. Receiving innovative packaging is quite an experience, as it is different, respects the environment, and brings the company’s values closer to consumers.

An example could be Nike. The sports brand launched some ‘air’ shoes on the market, which have a connotation of lightness like air. The creative packaging they presented was to introduce them in an airbag that, in addition to protecting the shoes, continued to transmit the message of comfort and lightness of the shoes.

Conclusion

Packaging is a crucial element for any company’s distribution chain; therefore, it is necessary to carefully study and analyze which is the most suitable for the type of product with which it works in each case.

Considering the current reality, using sustainable packaging is one of the significant changes that companies must apply. And it is that with this gesture, you collaborate in caring for the environment, sustainability, and improving the brand’s image. Should also consider that society is aware of the need to reduce pollution as much as possible.
