Netflix has a range of choices that can be set to control what children watch on the Netflix platform. There are many ways in which a Netflix user can keep track of the content that their children are seeing.
Profiles can be created as per maturity levels: Netflix has given an option to create five different profiles in one account. A maturity level can be set in any profile. Once this is done, Netflix will only show age-appropriate content to the user. This can be done by proceeding to the Profiles options page and by clicking on Add Profiles.
Profiles and Parental controls: To obtain an account, be it of children or their own, parents must go to Account settings. Everything can be located here. In case parents need to set an age limitation or if they want to see their child’s activity/history, it can be through by clicking on Account Settings.
Viewing restrictions: Once a profile is created for their children, the next step is to set considering limitations for children of a particular age. This can be done by clicking on Viewing Restrictions from the Profiles and Parental controls. After clicking on viewing restrictions, parents can begin the age group, which they consider appropriate for children. Netflix will then show only that content.
Netflix Categories for different age groups “All,” 7+, 13+, 16+, and 18+.
Profile lock: Children can be naughty, and they may try and search for other profiles. For this purpose, Netflix has a profile lock option. A user can set a four-digit pin on every profile. The steps to change the pin are :
- Click on profile lock
- Click on change
- Select “Require a Pin”
- Set a 4-digit pin
For more protection, parents can also choose “Require a pin to add more profiles” to stop kids from adding new profiles.
Restrict specific titles: If parents do not desire their children to see a particular series or if they feel that some shows are not proper for them to watch, they can also eliminate those shows. By choosing “content restrictions.” they only have to type the titles which they do not view their children watch in the “title restrictions list.”
Control playback settings: Netflix users can restrict the option of auto-playing back to back episodes of a series. They just have to go to the parental controls and deselect “autoplay next episode in a series of all devices.”
If they need previews to be played, they have to choose the option of “autoplay previews while browsing on all devices.”
Viewing history: Parents can browse the watcher history of their children by clicking on seeing activity from the parental control panel.
